Choose CGC or PSA for the card and purpose you actually have, not a universal claim that one always sells for more. This September 29, 2026 comparison uses current US service listings and separates fees, turnaround estimates and grade labels. Your collecting preference and the market for the exact card can lead to different choices.

The Current Fee Comparison

PSA lists Standard at $59.99 per card with a $1,000 maximum insured value and an estimated 90 to 100 business days. Paid membership is not required for ordinary submissions. The old $79.99 Standard figure and compulsory membership framing have been removed.

CGC lists Bulk at $17 per card with a 25-card minimum and $500 maximum value, Economy at $20 with a $1,000 maximum, and Standard at $55 with a $3,000 maximum. Its listed estimates are 150, 90 and 10 working days respectively. These observations were checked September 29, 2026. Membership, geography, service availability and other charges need a fresh check when you submit.

Do not compare the same tier name as if it meant the same service. The companies' value limits and timing differ. Shipping, insurance and any optional charges can matter more than a small headline fee difference.

A Bulk Minimum Is Part of the Cost

Using those listed CGC fees, a qualifying 25-card Bulk order starts at $425 in grading fees. The same number at Economy starts at $500. The $75 difference is arithmetic, not a recommendation to add unwanted cards just to meet a minimum.

If you only have a few suitable cards, assess those cards on their own. Adding low-priority submissions to access a lower unit price increases your total spend. The higher-priced service can also have different timing and value limits, so fee alone cannot settle the choice.

For the broader submission process and a clearly hypothetical resale calculation, read how PSA grading works. That page owns the step-by-step walkthrough rather than repeating it here.

Compare Grade Labels Precisely

CGC's current grading scale distinguishes Gem Mint 10 from Pristine 10. They are not interchangeable labels. Nor does a numeric 10 from one company automatically mean the same market outcome as a 10 from another.

Match the exact label in comparable sales. Do not mix legacy grading labels, current labels and special designations into a single average. Inspect the card and the certification information, not only the number printed at the top of a holder.

If a recognized error or variant is central to your submission, investigate whether the company identifies it and which service is appropriate. The Pokémon error guide explains why an unusual appearance alone is not enough.

Test Resale Claims With the Same Card

Find recent completed sales of the same printing, language and grade. Record the date and whether a figure includes buyer's premium or shipping. Exclude autographs, unusual provenance and mismatched conditions unless those are part of your card's identity.

Then compare the proceeds after your real submission and selling costs. A larger sale total can still leave a smaller net result. Avoid applying a fixed company-wide premium to every modern or vintage card, especially when only a handful of comparable transactions exist.

Our documented sales guide and Pikachu guide show how much identity and specimen details matter. Record auction results are not a substitute for ordinary comparable sales.

A Sensible Choice for Your Goal

Personal collection. Consider which holder, label and organizational system you prefer, and what you are comfortable spending. A card does not need to produce a financial return to be worth keeping.

Resale. Use card-specific completed sales, realistic grade outcomes and all-in costs. If the calculation only works with an unearned top grade, consider keeping the card raw or buying the grade you want instead.

Time-sensitive plans. Check the current service and shipping terms. Estimates can change, so do not schedule a resale commitment around an assumed return date.

For a separate physical-collectibles experience, visit the Polkastarter marketplace, where every Lootbox lists its contents, values, and chances before you open. A pack purchase is not a promise of a grading outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is CGC Pristine 10 the same label as CGC Gem Mint 10?

No. They are distinct grades on CGC's current scale and should be kept separate in comparable sales.

Does PSA always produce a higher net resale result?

No universal result is established. Compare the same card and grade using completed sales, then subtract the actual grading and selling costs.

Should I add extra cards to meet a bulk minimum?

Only if those submissions make sense on their own. A lower per-card fee can still increase total spending when extra cards are added.
