Upper Deck Brings Back the Wayne Gretzky Master Collection: 250 Boxes at $5,999.99

Upper Deck named Wayne Gretzky its second Legacy Partner after Michael Jordan on November 6, 2026, and brought back the Upper Deck Master Collection, Wayne Gretzky, a set of 250 numbered boxes sold only on UpperDeckStore.com at $5,999.99 each, per Upper Deck and its store listing. Preorders are limited to one per customer, with an estimated ship date of December 31, 2026. Upper Deck calls it the first Gretzky Master Collection in 25 years, following the original 2000 edition.

What Is in Each Box

Per the store listing, every box holds:

• A complete 25-card Wayne Gretzky base set
• At least 2 Wayne Gretzky autographs
• 1 Diamond Relic base set parallel, numbered to 10
• 1 non-autographed memorabilia card
• 1 "wildcard" hit, an autograph or memorabilia card

The checklist follows Gretzky from the World Junior Championship through his NHL awards, his Hockey Hall of Fame induction and the league-wide retirement of his number. Upper Deck says the set also includes inscription cards, dual, triple and quad autograph and memorabilia cards, and relic booklets with legends from other sports.

Gretzky signed and inscribed three of the 250 boxes:

• Box #1/250: 2,857 PTS Number 1
• Box #4/250: 4 Stanley Cups
• Box #9/250: 9 Hart Trophies

The Legacy Partner Deal

Per the press release, the Legacy Partner title gives Upper Deck exclusive rights to premium autographed Gretzky collectibles, including trading cards and memorabilia. "For decades, we've worked to capture the moments that defined Wayne Gretzky's unparalleled career," Jason Masherah, President of Upper Deck, said in the November 6 release.

The deal also renames the Hockey Hall of Fame's resource centre in Toronto the Walter Gretzky Upper Deck Hockey Resource Centre, after Wayne's late father. Through November 22, 2026, a free display in the foyer in front of the Hall's entrance shows a 1-of-1 Upper Deck Authenticated piece donated in Walter's honor and signed and inscribed by Wayne, alongside artifacts from the Hall's archive. Upper Deck Authenticated is also releasing five new Gretzky prints that run from his start with the Indianapolis Racers (the first time the Racers have appeared in UDA memorabilia) to his final NHL game.

How It Compares With the 2000 Edition

Per Upper Deck's listing:

• 2000: 150 sets for Canada and 150 for the US, with a red foil Maple Leaf stamped in the corner of each Canadian base card front
• 2026: 250 sets with one version for both markets
• Series gap: the first Master Collection release in 10 years
• Two-time honorees: Gretzky joins Michael Jordan as the only athletes with two Master Collections

Earlier Master Collections honored Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Joe Montana and Muhammad Ali, as well as the Los Angeles Lakers, the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers and Team Canada Hockey. Sports Collectors Digest reported the same 250-box run and the three signed boxes on November 6.

What It Means for Collectors

This is a premium, fixed-size release. Every box carries the full 25-card base set, so the chase is in the hits: which Gretzky autographs you land, the Diamond Relic parallel, the memorabilia card, the wildcard and your serial number. The three Gretzky-inscribed boxes are the standouts in a run of 250, and Upper Deck has not said how they will be allocated.

Per the listing, payment is taken when you preorder, preorders must be checked out separately from ready-to-ship items, and duplicate orders are cancelled.
