The most expensive Pokémon booster box ever sold at auction is a sealed 1999 Base Set 1st Edition box that brought $750,000 at Heritage Auctions on September 18, 2026, per Heritage's results and SI Collectibles. Heritage called it "the highest amount ever paid at auction for any sealed Pokémon Trading Card Games box" in its September 2026 announcement. It beat a $496,000 Goldin sale from February. The top of this market is the sealed 1999 Base Set 1st Edition box. Here is how its public auction record climbed:

1. 1999 Base Set 1st Edition booster box: $750,000

• Sale: Heritage Auctions, September 18, 2026, per Heritage's results announcement and SI Collectibles
• Why it matters: the same auction totaled $12,182,188, a record for Heritage's Trading Card Games auctions, led by a $5 million Pikachu Illustrator. Our report on the $750,000 box covers that auction

2. 1999 Base Set 1st Edition booster box: $496,000

• Sale: Goldin, February 2026, including buyer's premium, after 19 bids, also listed in Auction Report's results
• Why it matters: a 36-pack box still sealed in the original cellophane, with a letter of authenticity from X-Ray Authority. It was the top public result for seven months

3. 1999 Base Set 1st Edition booster box: $432,000

• Sale: PWCC Premier Auction, November 2021, per Auction Report and cllct via Yahoo Sports
• Why it matters: PWCC called it the highest price ever paid for a sealed box of Pokémon cards at the time, as published by Auction Report

4. 1999 Base Set 1st Edition booster box: $408,000

• Sale: Heritage Auctions, January 2021, per Antique Trader and ICv2
• Why it matters: the first sealed Pokémon box to sell for more than $400,000 at auction

The Top Boxes From Other Sets

Skyridge booster box (2003): $212,500

• Sale: Heritage Auctions, March 2026, per Intelligent Collector and ComicBook
• Why it matters: ComicBook notes Skyridge was the final English set Wizards of the Coast released before The Pokémon Company took over the game. This is the top Skyridge result confirmed by two outlets

1996 Japanese Base Set booster box: $137,500

• Sale: Heritage Auctions, June 2026, per ComicBook and PriceCharting
• Why it matters: it beat the $125,000 a Japanese Base Set box brought at Heritage in March 2026, per Intelligent Collector and PriceCharting. PriceCharting's sales log also lists two Japanese Base Set boxes at $175,000 from Heritage's September 2026 auction, which we could not confirm on a lot page

Two results that are not single boxes. Goldin sold a sealed 2002 Legendary Collection case of six boxes for $620,000 in February 2026, per Goldin and Auction Report. And in January 2026, the 36 packs of a sealed 1st Edition box that Logan Paul and Ken Goldin opened on February 15 sold one by one, before the break, for a combined $1,387,140, cllct reported via Yahoo Sports. Neither is a single-box sale, so neither is ranked.

• Lost Origin: about $720

• Silver Tempest: about $495
• Chilling Reign: about $445
• Obsidian Flames: about $358
• Surging Sparks: about $300

What to Check Before Comparing Two Boxes

• Exact set, language and edition. A 1st Edition Base Set box and an Unlimited box look almost identical apart from the 1st Edition badge, but sell for very different prices. Unlimited Base Set boxes sold for about $35,000 to $47,500 at Heritage in 2026, per PriceCharting
• The seal. Look for clear photos of all sides, the seams and the wrap. A box that has been resealed or opened belongs in a different comparison
• Authentication. Many top boxes sell with a letter from an authenticator, as the $496,000 Goldin box did
• Auction result, not an asking price. Compare completed sales with the same buyer's premium treatment, not offers or estimates
