Sealed Pokémon Base Set Box Sells for $750,000 at Heritage

A sealed 1999 Pokémon First Edition Base Set booster box sold for $750,000 at Heritage Auctions on September 18, 2026. The completed lot page records that amount. In its September 21 results announcement, Heritage calls it the highest auction price paid for any sealed Pokémon Trading Card Game box. The claim is about a completed auction, not an unsold listing or a prediction about the next box.

What Heritage Actually Sold

This is auction 7459, lot 36071, described as a Wizards of the Coast 1999 First Edition Base Set sealed booster box. Heritage says it contains 36 packs, with 11 cards per pack, and grades its overall condition Excellent. The wrapping was intact, while the corners were lightly blunted. Those condition details belong beside the price because sealed boxes are not interchangeable simply because the set name matches.

The lot page presents $750,000 as the sold total and lists a 25 percent buyer's premium in the auction information. Do not turn that total into a hammer price. The house's September 21 release is a separate post-sale confirmation, not another transaction.

A New Auction High Has a Narrow Meaning

Heritage describes this as the sealed Pokémon box auction record. That is narrower than saying every 1st Edition box is now worth $750,000. One rare, high-profile sale does not measure the price of a different sealed box with different wrap, corner wear, provenance or sale venue. An independent weekly roundup also lists the $750,000 box among the week's completed TCG results, but neither source supplies a dependable price for an uninspected box in someone's collection.

The original Base Set remains a collector landmark, with the First Edition release and Charizard carrying much of its cultural weight. But the actionable detail is the object, not just the name. If you are evaluating a box, obtain clear photographs of every side, the wrap and any seal markings, and keep the auction's written condition description with the result. A seller's screenshot of the headline alone is not authentication.

What It Means for Collectors

For a buyer comparing historical sales, the most useful distinction is sealed-box auction result versus ordinary pack shopping.
