A 1997 Japanese CoroCoro Comic phone card, "Pocket Monsters 1" from the 2 Million Copies Achieved Gift, graded PSA 10, sold for $2,255,000 as a Fanatics Collect Buy Now on October 23, 2026, per Fanatics Collect's sales records. A different PSA 10 copy of the same card sold for $31,800 at Fanatics on June 19, 2026. SI Collectibles ranked it the No. 1 TCG-related sale of October 17 to 24, 2026.

The Card

What it is

  • A Japanese 50-unit NTT prepaid telephone card from CoroCoro Comic. The front reproduces the cover of volume 1 of Kosaku Anakubo's Pocket Monsters manga, which CoroCoro serialized, showing Red, Clefairy and Pikachu. It is not a playable trading card

How it was given out

  • Fanatics Collect's June 2026 Premier listings for these cards say they went out in August 1997 as prizes in a CoroCoro reader prize draw. The Pocket Monsters 2 listing says it is "believed that there were only 50 examples" of that card awarded. The October Buy Now listing has no description

Population

  • The October listing gives this copy's PSA population as 1 of 10, which points to 10 copies of Pocket Monsters 1 graded Gem Mint 10 at the time of the sale

The sale

  • $2,255,000, Fanatics Collect Buy Now, October 23, 2026 at 7:12 a.m. PT, marked Paid in Fanatics Collect's sales records
  • PSA certificate 123621776 is visible on the holder in the listing photo

A Buy Now is a fixed-price sale: the seller sets the price and one buyer accepts it, with no bidding. That makes this one data point, not a market price set by competing bidders.

A Second Phone Card, One Minute Later

At 7:13 a.m. PT the same morning, a 1997 Nippon Telegraph and Telephone phone card showing Misty and Pokémon, graded CGC 9, sold for $482,000, also as a Buy Now. In an October 25, 2026 ranking of the top TCG sales for October 17 to 24, SI Collectibles' Lucas Mast put the two phone cards at a combined $2,737,000 and wrote that two of the week's biggest sales "weren't traditional trading cards."

How Far the Price Jumped

Fanatics Collect's own records show how thin this market was before October 23:

  • June 19, 2026: a different copy of Pocket Monsters 1 in PSA 10 (cert 154135922) sold for $31,800 in a Premier auction. Pocket Monsters 2 in PSA 10 sold for $32,100 the same night
  • October 23, 2026: Pocket Monsters 1 PSA 10 for $2,255,000, about 71 times what the June PSA 10 copy brought
  • October 26, 2026: Pocket Monsters 2 in PSA 9 sold for $10,000 as a Buy Now

Before October 23, the highest Pokémon phone card sale in Fanatics Collect's public sales history (searched October 29, 2026) was that $32,100 from June. The next highest was a 2002 Shiny Charizard phone card in BGS 9.5 at $16,000 in September. That gap is why we treat the $2.255 million as a single fixed-price deal, not proof that every copy is now worth seven figures.

Our take: if you own one of these cards, the June auctions are the more useful guide to what bidders have paid, until another copy sells at a public auction.
