2026 Topps Chrome Update Has 198 Rookie Debut Patches, Down From a Record 270

2026 Topps Chrome Update Series Baseball carries 198 MLB Rookie Debut Patch Autographs on Topps's first checklist, down from a record 270 in 2025 and the first year-on-year drop since the cards launched in 2023, per SI. Preorders opened November 2 and the release is set for December 9, 2026. Each debut patch is a one-of-one, pairing a rookie's autograph with the patch he wore in his first MLB game.
Fewer Debut Patches for the First Time
Topps raised the count every year until now, per SI:
- 2023: 91
- 2024: 251
- 2025: 270
- 2026: 198, by our count of the V1 checklist Topps published (SI says fewer than 200, and Checklist Insider's list also has 198 codes)
Topps notes that its checklists reflect the intended configuration at the time of production and that actual contents may vary, so treat 198 as the launch figure.

Which Teams Have the Most Debut Patches
Our count of Topps's V1 checklist by team, as of November 4, 2026:
Most
- Miami Marlins: 13
- Chicago White Sox: 13
- Boston Red Sox: 10
Fewest
- Chicago Cubs: 2
- New York Yankees: 3
- Los Angeles Dodgers: 4
- San Diego Padres: 4
Every other club has between 5 and 8.
The Big Names on the Checklist
Jacob Misiorowski (Milwaukee Brewers) is the lead chase, per SI, and his patch lands weeks after the Brewers' World Series title. The checklist also has debut patches for Munetaka Murakami (White Sox), Kazuma Okamoto (Blue Jays), Trey Yesavage (Blue Jays), Kevin McGonigle (Tigers), Sal Stewart (Reds), Cam Schlittler (Yankees), Roman Anthony (Red Sox), Nolan McLean (Mets), Konnor Griffin (Pirates), Jac Caglianone (Royals), Samuel Basallo (Orioles), Travis Bazzana (Guardians) and Bryce Eldridge (Giants).
For scale, Paul Skenes's 2024 debut patch sold for $1.11 million at Fanatics Collect in March 2025, per SI and Sports Collectors Digest. Pete Crow-Armstrong's 2024 patch is close behind at $1.098 million at Goldin in September 2026, per Baseball America. Nick Kurtz's 2025 patch sold for $516,000 at Fanatics Collect in January 2026, per SI and Baseball America, and SI still called it last season's most expensive patch on November 4. Past sales are not a guide to what a 2026 patch will bring.

What It Means for Collectors
Fewer patches spread across the same 30 clubs means fewer chances at any one team's rookies. If you collect a team, the team count matters more than the headline number: a Cubs fan is chasing 2 patches, a White Sox fan 13. Debut patches usually come out of packs as redemption cards, per Checklist Insider, so the card you pull is a voucher until Topps ships the patch. Our take: Marlins and White Sox collectors get the most shots, while Cubs and Yankees fans have 2 and 3 patches in total, so for one specific patch the single will usually beat ripping. Our most expensive rookie debut patch cards guide lists every record patch sale, our Misiorowski World Series story covers his existing cards, and our Brewers World Series cards guide covers the rest of the champions.
