Beckett.com, the Beckett app and BGS cert lookup are still offline on October 1, 2026, three weeks after Beckett took them down at 7 p.m. CT on September 9. Beckett's maintenance page gives no return date, and Base and Standard grading are paused again, leaving Express as the only grading tier open online. For anyone buying a BGS slab right now, that means one of the usual safety checks simply doesn't exist.

What Beckett Says Is Happening

Beckett's only stated reason is maintenance. Its page says it is upgrading its digital infrastructure and that its "digital platforms, including Beckett.com and the Beckett mobile app, remain temporarily offline." No cyberattack or other cause has been confirmed by Beckett.

The timeline so far:

  • September 9, 7 p.m. CT: all Beckett websites and the app go offline, and online submissions stop
  • September 15: Base and Standard reopen through a temporary submission form, Heavy reported
  • Around September 24: Base and Standard are paused again with a waitlist, Heavy reported
  • October 1: still no return date. Beckett says it will post updates on the maintenance page as they become available

What Still Works, and What Doesn't

Offline or paused

  • Beckett.com and the Beckett app
  • BGS cert lookup (the lookup page redirects to the maintenance notice)
  • Population report and online price guides
  • New Base and Standard grading submissions
  • New Beckett Authentication Services submissions and Beckett EU online submissions

Still working

  • Express grading at $79.95 per card with a 15 business day estimate, through Beckett's temporary submission form for Plano headquarters
  • Drop-off and pickup at Beckett headquarters by appointment, plus in-person submissions at card shows Beckett attends
  • Orders already submitted: Beckett says its grading teams are still working and customers keep getting automated email updates

As compensation for the offline guides, Beckett extended all active Online Price Guide subscriptions by 60 days at no cost.

Buying a BGS Slab While Cert Lookup Is Down

Normally you type the serial number into Beckett's lookup and confirm the card, grade and subgrades match the slab. That step is gone, and the QR code on Beckett's newer labels points back to the same offline site. A matching cert number was never full proof anyway, because a real number can be copied onto a fake holder.

Practical checks you can still run:

  • Ask for sharp photos of the front, back and label edges. Compare the label layout with known genuine BGS slabs from reputable sold listings.
  • Know the label colors. On current labels, black marks a Perfect Pristine 10, gold covers Pristine 10 and Gem Mint 9.5, and silver covers lower grades, per CardGrade's BGS guide. Older label designs differ.
  • Check the security features on newer labels. CardGrade, citing Beckett, lists holographic label material, a hidden UV pattern and a light-reactive badge. A cheap UV flashlight is enough for the first check.
  • Check the classic fake tells on older holders. Cardlines' counterfeit guide flags a wrong or missing patent number on the case, off subgrade fonts, uneven serial spacing and a squashed Beckett logo.
  • Use eBay's Authenticity Guarantee for $200 and up. eBay's program still lists BGS among accepted graders, and its authenticators check "that the case and label are authentic to the grader."
  • Keep the paper trail. A seller who submitted the card can usually show the Beckett order or invoice.

If none of that is possible and the card is expensive, waiting until lookup returns is a perfectly reasonable move. Our guide on how to verify a graded card walks through the full process for PSA, CGC and BGS.

What It Means for Collectors

Grading demand was already straining Beckett before the outage. In August, ICv2 reported Beckett pausing online Base and Standard submissions as volume surged. Collectors, the parent company of PSA and SGC, agreed to acquire Beckett in a deal announced December 15, 2025. The announcement says Beckett will remain an independent brand.

If you were planning a budget BGS submission, CGC's Bulk tier is the closest match right now at $17 per card with a 25-card minimum, per our CGC vs PSA comparison checked September 29. PSA's lowest Value tiers were suspended, with its cheapest open tier at $59.99, Heavy reported in September.
