MTG Marvel: Darkhold Destiny Arrives April 9, 2027 With an Original Marvel Story
Magic: The Gathering (MTG) | Marvel: Darkhold Destiny releases on April 9, 2027, and is available for preorder now, Wizards of the Coast announced on October 9, 2026. It is Magic's third full Marvel set, after Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel Super Heroes, as Star City Games noted from the New York Comic Con reveal, and Wizards says it is built around an all-new, original story set in the Marvel Universe rather than an existing comic arc.
Current as of October 10, 2026. Wizards has not announced prices or prerelease dates yet.
What Darkhold Destiny Is About
The set focuses on the magical and supernatural side of Marvel. According to the product page, Dormammu and Hela use a page of the Darkhold to tear open the walls between realities. Wizards names Magik as one of the characters stepping into Magic, and the products feature Doctor Strange and Asgard.
The story continues outside the cards. Wizards says a new Marvel Comics release by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly will tell the origin of a brand-new character, with a digital release in February 2027 and a physical release in April 2027.

- 9 Booster Packs, a mechanically unique Mythic Rare promo, 5 full-art Strange Places basic lands and an oversize Spindown die
Arcanum Bundle
- 8 Booster Packs, full-art Bifrost lands, mechanically unique Arcanum promo cards with exclusive art, a Collector Booster and a Spindown die
Commander Decks and Collector's Edition Commander Decks
- 100-card decks, with the Collector's Edition in Surge Foil
Draft Night
- A four-player Pick-Two draft kit that includes a Collector Booster for the winner
Scene Boxes
- Assault on Asgard and Skirmish at the Sanctum, each with six borderless Scene cards that form one image
Wizards has not listed prices as of October 10, 2026, so preorder prices are whatever each retailer sets.
The First Cards Revealed
Wizards showed two mythic rares in the announcement.
Hela, Mistress of Darkness
- A six-mana 6/6 Legendary Creature, God Sorcerer Villain. Once each turn, when a player loses life during your turn, you may create that many tapped 2/2 black Zombie tokens
- Its Dark Tutor half is a three-mana Vengeance sorcery you can cast only from your graveyard (then it is exiled). It puts any card from your library into your hand or graveyard, and you lose 3 life
The Darkhold
- A three-mana Legendary Artifact, Book. Each tap adds a sin counter and draws a card per counter, then you lose 1 life for each card in your hand. For eight mana and a tap, at sorcery speed, every player's life total becomes the lowest among all players

Will Darkhold Destiny Have God Packs?
Not on Wizards' current schedule. In its October 5 booster update, Wizards said God Packs start with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, which releases February 5, 2027, and continue with each Magic Multiverse set, with Universes Beyond sets expected in 2028. Darkhold Destiny is a Universes Beyond set releasing April 9, 2027, so on that timeline its packs would not include God Packs. Wizards has not said anything specific to Darkhold Destiny yet.
