What's in a Pokémon Elite Trainer Box (2026): Contents, Price and Is It Worth It

A current (2026) standard Pokémon Elite Trainer Box contains 9 booster packs, a full-art foil promo card, 65 card sleeves, 40 Energy cards and a set of play accessories, according to The Pokémon Company International's Pitch Black Elite Trainer Box page. The Pokémon Center version adds two more packs and a second promo. Here's everything inside, what an ETB costs per pack, and what 2026's Elite Trainer Boxes sell for now.
Current as of October 3, 2026. Market prices change daily.
What's in a Pokémon Elite Trainer Box
Every 2026 Mega Evolution Elite Trainer Box has the same contents, per the official product pages:
- 9 booster packs
- 1 full-art foil promo card
- 65 card sleeves
- 40 Energy cards
- A player's guide
- 6 damage-counter dice
- 1 competition-legal coin-flip die
- 1 plastic coin
- A collector's box with 6 dividers
- A code card for Pokémon TCG Live
Only the promo changes from set to set:
Ascended Heroes: N's Zekrom Perfect Order: Tyrunt Chaos Rising: Fennekin Pitch Black: Zarude
The 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box breaks the pattern: it swaps the 40 Energy cards for 16 foil Basic Energy and comes with a full-art Nidorina promo.
Older boxes differ too. The Scarlet & Violet 151 Elite Trainer Box from 2023, for example, came with 45 Energy cards, 4 dividers and two condition markers instead of a coin. If you buy an out-of-print ETB, check that set's own contents list.
Standard vs Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box
The Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box is sold at retail only by Pokémon Center, according to TCGplayer. Its official page lists "11 booster packs (two more than the standard Elite Trainer Box)", plus two copies of the promo, one stamped with the Pokémon Center logo. Everything else matches.
Standard Elite Trainer Box
- 9 packs, 1 promo
- Reported MSRP: $49.99
Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box
- 11 packs, 2 promos (one with the Pokémon Center logo)
- Reported MSRP: $59.99
Pokémon doesn't print prices on its product pages. The $49.99 and $59.99 figures come from TCGplayer, where Corbin Hosler wrote in February 2026 that "Elite Trainer Boxes currently have an MSRP of $49.99".
Is an Elite Trainer Box Worth It?
If you only want packs, no. At reported MSRP:
- Elite Trainer Box: $49.99 for 9 packs, about $5.55 a pack
- Pokémon Center ETB: $59.99 for 11 packs, about $5.45 a pack
- Booster Bundle: 6 packs at the $4.49 pack MSRP, about $26.94
- Booster box: $161.64 for 36 packs, about $4.49 a pack (both per TCGplayer's MSRP figures)

The extra dollar a pack buys the promo, the sleeves, the Energy, the dice and a sturdy storage box. Our take: buy an ETB for the promo or as a gift that's ready to play, and buy bundles or booster boxes when the packs are the point. Our best Pokémon packs to buy guide shows how to work out the delivered cost per pack.
Store prices can sit above MSRP. On October 3, 2026, Best Buy's Pitch Black Elite Trainer Box listing showed $79.99 (marked unavailable), so check the price before you assume a deal.

Where to Go From Here
An ETB is the most complete way to start a set, but not the cheapest way to open packs. If you just want to open real cards, the Polkastarter marketplace gives new members a free mystery pack, and every Lootbox lists its contents, values, and chances before you open.
