Why the Gold Star Rayquaza Is Worth So Much

Gold Stars were the toughest pulls of the later EX sets, about one every 72 packs according to CGC, and the rule printed on them, that you can only have one Pokémon Star in a deck, became part of their legend. Rayquaza's is card 107/107, the last numbered card before EX Deoxys' lone secret rare.

Three things drive its price:

• Grade. In 2026 sales, a PSA 8 brought $60,000, a PSA 9 $108,000 and a PSA 10 $682,500. Pristine 10 at CGC added the last jump to $1.02 million.
• Population. Alt's listing shows 47 PSA 10s, and the Fanatics Collect listing describes the Pristine 10 as the only one at that grade.
• The Gold Star run. Gold Stars have set record after record this year. A PSA 10 Gold Star Torchic sold for $2.7 million on Alt in September, as ComicBook also reported, and a PSA 10 Mudkip followed at $1.02 million, per Fanatics Collect. So Rayquaza was first past $1 million, but it is no longer the English record.

• Nearly 3,000 PSA 10s, per the listing
