Shohei Ohtani's $11 Million Card: The Back to Back Gold Logoman Redemption, Explained

Shohei Ohtani's $11 million card is the 2026 Topps Chrome Back to Back Dual Gold Logoman Autograph Relic, a 1/1 that collector Matthew Allen told ESPN he bought for $11 million in late July 2026, the third-highest price for a sports card, per ESPN. A Florida collector pulled a redemption for the card from a hobby box of 2026 Topps Chrome Baseball less than a week after the set came out. What the Card Is

Card: 2026 Topps Chrome Baseball Back to Back Dual Gold Logoman Autograph Relic, numbered 1/1.

Patches: two gold MLB logo patches that Ohtani wore after his back-to-back MVP seasons. One is from a road game in Baltimore on September 7, 2025, when he hit two home runs, and one from a home game on April 12, 2026, when he homered again, per ESPN and MLB.com.

Autographs: two on-card signatures, English at the top and Kanji at the bottom, per Topps and Sports Collectors Digest.

Why gold: players who win MVP, Cy Young or Rookie of the Year wear a gold MLB logo patch on their uniforms the following season, ESPN explains. MLB.com adds that each patch is then embedded in a 1/1 Topps card that the player signs.

What "Back to Back" Means

"Back to Back" does not refer to the Dodgers' World Series titles. MLB.com says the cards feature the three players who won MVP or Cy Young in both 2024 and 2025: Ohtani, Aaron Judge and Tarik Skubal. Each player has one 1/1 card with two gold patches, one worn during each of the past two seasons, per MLB.com.

How It Was Found

Release: 2026 Topps Chrome Baseball came out on July 22, 2026.

The pull: the collector had bought two jumbo cases of Topps Chrome and opened them at home, finding the card in the first box of the second case, ESPN reported. ESPN ties the pull to his local card store, Boca Sports Cards in Boca Raton, Florida. What he pulled was a redemption, which Sports Collectors Digest says is true of every Back to Back Gold Logoman card in the set. Topps' own teaser had said the card could be found in a pack.

The buyer: Matthew Allen, a high-end collector who had posted a $6.5 million bounty for the card on Instagram, per ESPN. "The card just resonated deep with me, and I was like, you know what, I have to get this card," Allen told ESPN on July 30, 2026. The collector who found it has not been named. Allen is one of three principals of Secure Collectibles, with Kevin O'Leary and Paul Warshaw, the group that also bought the record Jordan and Kobe card, ESPN reports.

The Price

Allen told ESPN he paid $11 million, and the deal was agreed on July 29, 2026 and reported the next day. On Instagram, Allen also wrote, "To make it very clear, I paid over 10 million for the card," as Bleacher Report reported. It was a private sale, so no auction record exists.

Redemptions trade before Topps delivers the finished card. Goldin sold another Ohtani 1/1 as an unused redemption in September. As of October 11, 2026, we found no report that this one has been fulfilled, graded or put on display.

ESPN also notes a 2006-07 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Dual Logoman autograph of Jordan and LeBron James that sold for $10 million in September 2025. What Has Sold Since

No other Ohtani card has come close to $11 million. His next-best results include a 2018 Bowman Chrome Superfractor BGS 9.5 at $3,365,000 in a private sale in July 2026, per ESPN, and a 2025 Topps Chrome MVP Gold Logoman 1/1 at $3,000,000 at Fanatics Collect in December 2025.
