The most valuable Blastoise card ever sold is a 1998 Wizards of the Coast Commissioned Presentation "Galaxy Star" Blastoise graded CGC 8.5, which brought $360,000 with buyer's premium at Heritage Auctions in January 2021, CGC reported. Among standard cards, the record is a 1996 Japanese Base Set No Rarity Symbol Blastoise in PSA 10 at $231,800, and the best result for a regular English print is a 1st Edition PSA 10 at $138,880 in February 2026. Below are the biggest Blastoise sales, what a 1st Edition Blastoise is worth by grade, and the test prints that sit in between.

Current as of October 7, 2026. Prices include buyer's premium where reported.

The Most Valuable Blastoise Cards Ever Sold

Ranked by sales confirmed by at least two sources. Two Magic-backed test prints that only CGC has reported follow in the next section.

1. Blastoise #009/165R, 1998 Commissioned Presentation Galaxy Star Hologram, CGC 8.5: $360,000

  • Sale: Heritage Auctions, January 14, 2021, per CGC and Kotaku
  • Why it matters: a blank-backed test print from 1998, made as Wizards of the Coast prepared the first English cards. A former Wizards employee told CGC it was made for media use, to show what an English Pokémon card would look like. CGC said at the time that the sale was "tied for the highest price ever paid at auction for any English Pokémon card" (January 15, 2021)

2. Blastoise #9, 1996 Japanese Base Set, No Rarity Symbol, PSA 10: $231,800

  • Sale: Goldin, December 2025, including buyer's premium, after 37 bids. Card Ladder records the same price
  • Why it matters: the first Japanese print run, with no rarity symbol in the corner. The lot page listed a PSA 10 population of 6. Our rarity symbols guide explains how the symbols work on later cards, where a missing symbol usually does not add value

3. Blastoise #2, 1999 Base Set 1st Edition, PSA 10 ("Logan Paul Break" label): $138,880

  • Sale: Goldin, February 2026, including buyer's premium, after 32 bids, per the lot page and SI Collectibles
  • Why it matters: the highest confirmed sale for a regular English Blastoise. The label marks it as a card Logan Paul pulled in his 1st Edition booster box break, and SI Collectibles reported on February 21, 2026 that all three starters from that break sold for all-time highs

4. Blastoise #2, 1999 Base Set 1st Edition, PSA 10: $73,810

  • Sale: Goldin, August 2026, including buyer's premium, after 26 bids
  • Why it matters: the same card and grade as the Logan Paul copy without the label. Card Ladder also records a $126,000 PSA 10 sale on September 10, 2026, so the label premium is not fixed

For context, a 1st Edition PSA 10 sold for $23,604 at Goldin in August 2022, so the 2026 Goldin results ran about three to six times higher.

The Blastoise Test Prints

Wizards of the Coast printed test cards in 1998 while it prepared the first English cards. Most surviving Blastoise test prints have a gold border and a Magic: The Gathering back, and CGC said in November 2021 that only six had been certified. Two sold at Heritage, per CGC's auction recaps. We could not reach Heritage's archive or find a second outlet, so treat these as reported:

  • CGC 6.5: $216,000 at Heritage in 2021, per CGC Cards, which reported that figure for both a July and a November 2021 sale
  • CGC 7.5: $162,000, September 2022, per CGC Cards

What a 1st Edition Blastoise Is Worth by Grade

The 1999 Base Set 1st Edition Blastoise #2 is the English card most collectors chase:

  • PSA 10: $73,810 to $138,880 in Goldin sales in 2026, plus a $126,000 sale on September 10, 2026 per Card Ladder. PSA's population report showed 101 PSA 10 copies on October 7, 2026
  • Grade 9: about $6,720 across graders, per PriceCharting on October 7, 2026. PSA's auction record shows a PSA 9 at $10,700 on April 27, 2026
  • Ungraded: about $1,370, per PriceCharting

Later prints cost far less. Per PriceCharting on October 7, 2026, a Shadowless Blastoise runs about $20,250 in PSA 10 and $247 ungraded, and an Unlimited Blastoise about $7,675 in PSA 10 and $95 ungraded. Our 1st Edition Pokémon cards guide covers how to tell the prints apart.

Modern Blastoise: What It Sells For

Blastoise ex #200, Scarlet & Violet 151 (2023)

  • About $124 ungraded and about $510 in PSA 10, per PriceCharting on October 7, 2026

Our take: Blastoise prices split three ways. Prototypes and Japanese first prints set the records, a 1st Edition PSA 10 sold from $73,810 to $138,880 in 2026 depending on the copy and its label, and graded modern copies sell in the hundreds.
