The most valuable 1999 Pokémon Base Set card by confirmed sales at Fanatics Collect and Goldin is the 1st Edition holo Charizard #4: a PSA 10 sold for $954,800 after 31 bids at Goldin on February 15, 2026. Another closed at $1,380,000 at Fanatics Collect on October 23, 2026 but was still unpaid on October 26, 2026. Below Charizard, only a Prerelease Raichu, the 1st Edition Blastoise and the 1st Edition Mewtwo have confirmed sales above $100,000.

Current as of October 26, 2026. Sales are from Fanatics Collect's sold records, confirmed on each lot page that is still online, and Goldin lot records. Auction prices include buyer's premium. Only single cards with sales marked paid (Fanatics Collect) or sold (Goldin) are ranked, so multi-card lots and sealed product are left out. All dates are auction close dates in US Pacific time, so lot pages can show the next day. Fanatics Collect lot pages show a result as sold even when its sold records still list it as unpaid.

The Most Valuable Base Set Cards, Ranked

Ranked by each card's highest confirmed single-card sale at Fanatics Collect (marked paid) or Goldin (marked sold), in any grade and print run, buyer's premium included. Cards that tie share a rank. Unpaid results, sealed product, sets, misprint error cards and non-English cards are not ranked. The Prerelease Raichu is ranked as a known Base Set variant.

What Is Not Ranked

The $1.38 million Charizard

  • A 1st Edition Charizard PSA 10 closed at $1,380,000 at Fanatics Collect on October 23, 2026, still marked unpaid on October 26, 2026. Both lot pages show the same PSA cert, 21506649, as a copy that sold for $480,000 there on March 19, 2026, marked paid. If the October result is paid, it becomes the top confirmed Base Set sale

Sealed boxes

Error cards

  • A Shadowless Ninetales with a missing attack damage error sold for $48,000 at Fanatics Collect on September 13, 2026, in PSA 9

Why 1st Edition and PSA 10 Dominate the List

Every ranked card except the Prerelease Raichu is a 1st Edition copy, and every ranked sale except that Raichu's PSA 6 is a PSA 10. The 1st Edition stamp and a Gem Mint grade together set the top of the Base Set market. The same Charizard in lower grades or later prints sells for a fraction of these prices.

Our take: the stamp and the grade come first. Check your card's print run (1st Edition stamp, Shadowless or Unlimited) and its grade before comparing prices. A PSA 10 1st Edition card and an Unlimited copy of the same Pokémon are different markets.
